Church and Community Service

     An educational program focused on the collection, preservation, and interpretation of books, manuscripts, and artifacts related to the historical background, religious thought and expression, culture, and genealogy of Mennonite- and Amish- related groups originating in Pennsylvania and including their European background:

Library:  A memory bank of historical, denominational, genealogical, and cultural books for people who want to move into the future with perspective from the past; daily library for use fee for non-members.

Archives:  Congregational, organizational, and manuscript collections relating to church and family history:  minutes, record books, bulletins, newsletters, programs, photographs, et cetera.

Genealogy:  A major genealogical collection, binding people together through appreciation for their ancestral heritage.

Publications:  Quarterly Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage, bi-monthly Mirror, and occasional books in the Mennonite Sources and Documents series.

Book/Gift Shop:  New books/gifts for sale, including mail order; discounts to Society members through periodic Book Club selections.

Education:  Seminars, conferences, field trips, and educational programs for discussion and interpretation of common heritage; assistance for congregations and their historians; sponsorship of Mennonite History Day in local schools.

Research and Translation:  Historical and genealogical research; German script transcription and translation services at hourly rates.

This book on the history and genealogy of the descendants of Huguenot Isaac LeFevre of 1669 is now available through the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society at a cost of $10 plus shipping & handling.

The Society is now making available the set of 40 photographs of Franklin's Tour of LeFevre Historical Sites in Lancaster, PA.

Also of interest in the study of LeFevre history is a chart depicting the Ferree Family Tree.

Auctions of Rare, Out-of-Print, Used Books:  Historical, genealogical, denominational, and cultural materials auctioned five times per year with bidding by mail or in person; annual August Bookworm Frolic with thousands of used books.

Museum:  Artifacts to symbolize values and faith passed on to the present by previous generations; interpretive exhibits at Society headquarters and at the 1719 Herr House near Willow Street, Pennsylvania.
